Now that I have told you a little about myself, let's jump into the web design process.
1st. Let's get the dirt out of the way (pricing). Here at Ken lenz Design Solutions, we charge $65.00 per hour and all jobs are done on a bid type basis. We sit down and discuss what your web site will encompass and I work up a bid from what was discussed at the meeting. If we are unable to meet NO Problem, I have worked out a downloadable checklist for web development to help you and me with this process. You simply print out the checklist and complete the tasks at hand and send me the completed document. If you need help laying out the structure of your site, I have also put together a site map that you can also download and print.
2nd. You will hear lots of opinions out there from an array of web developers, you see there are a couple different groups when it comes to development, there are the coders and the designers. It's kinda funny coders will tell you that you have no need for fancy graphics, just good information and fast load times, and designers will tell you that without a nice looking site people won't stay no matter how good you content is.
Well I'm a designer although I do agree that we need to make a site functional easily navigated and fast loading; I do believe in a beautiful look and feel. After all we're not building a news paper here we are building your image! With today's fast internet speeds and peoples low attention spans we need to be able to grab them right off the get-go and keep em there to actually read your content. Just a quick example: when I'm browsing the internet looking to buy something, I will not buy anything from a site that looks like it took no time or effort to build even if it is functional because I feel safer giving my credit card number to a company that has a site that looks like they spent some time and money on, this way I feel more secure!
3rd. Now we need to go over search engines and the marketing of your newly built web site. I am NOT an pro search engine submission company however I do know a thing or two about it. I will build your pages to be search engine friendly, but as far as submitting your site to the engines, I do not offer this service. I don't offer this service because I believe it is a task that you need to specialize in not just know some things about; especially if you are going to actually charge for this service and guarantee any type of good placement. I will submit your site to "Google and possibly some other engines for you for free just to get your site out there, but I DO NOT GUARANTEE any type of placement. Also you will need to provide me with a list of "Keywords", and "Description" of your site and a "Title". I will help you come up with these, if needed, along with give you suggestions on the link and text content on the pages which also plays a huge role in search engine placement.
4th. I would like to clear up some confusion as far as MARKETING your new site! A lot of customers have a site built and never really think about marketing it simply because they think that once you have a site its out there and people just find it, well there is the search engine subject again; I want to give you some more suggestions on marketing your new site besides just search engines. Here is a list:
- Get a hold of others with web sites similar to yours and see if they will link to you.
- Radio Ads/TV if the budget allows.
- Ads in magazines that target your audience (I have several clients who do this and do very well)
- Word of mouth, get out there and shout it from the roof-tops so to speak.
- All types of print publication - billboards, business cards, brochures, posters, postcards etc.
- There are more that we can discuss in our correspondence.
